take care of your ink! (plz)

tattoo after care tips

healing with second skin

  • leave bandage on for two days

    • if the bandage is itching or irritating the skin, take it off immediately, rinse with luke warm water and wash with anti-bacterial soap, non scented or sensitive soap. Cover with a thin layer of Vaseline, Aquafore, or Neosporine

  • The second skin bag may fill up with ink or blood and this is a normal part of the healing process as your skin is using its own plasma to heal the tattoo

  • Always remember to wash your hands when Caring for your tattoo!

  • After the two days remove the bandage in the shower with warm water and slowly peel off (making sure not to hurt the tattoo or the skin around the tattoo), wash with anti- bacterial soap, pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel, apply a thin layer of moisturizer (non scented), it is important to let your tattoo breath so do not cover it with a bandage unless you work in an unsanitary working environment

  • make sure to wash lightly morning and night for the first three days to ensure keeping all bacteria out, apply moisturizer after every wash

  • KEEP AWAY FROM PETS

Healing without a second skin

  • If you are allergic to latex or know you are allergic to the second skin I will send you home with only a thin layer of Vaseline on top of the tattoo

  • The night of the tattoo wash it with anti-bacterial soap or non sensitive soap and then cover again with a thin layer of moisturizer

  • follow same instructions as above with letting the tattoo breath, washing instructions, and caring for it in unsanitary working environments

  • KEEP AWAY FROM PETS

itching and scabbing

Your tattoo is going to naturally start itching a couple days of initially getting the tattoo. This can be the most frustrating part of the process as you are going to be tempted to itch.. DO NOT ITCH!! If you have to.. slap the area or scratch around the surrounding areas, but try to refrain from scraping any of the physical tattoo. The tattoo will scab which is natural as it is your bodies response to healing the wound. Let it scab over and flake off ON ITS OWN! Do not pick the scab, if you scratch or pick the scab it could also take part of the tattoo with it and leave you with empty or broken up spaces through the tattoo. It can also lead to infection.

The shower or water

When showering make sure to keep a towel handy so that you can pat the tattoo dry throughout the tattoo to ensure that it doesn't get soaked with the water. Excess of water can lead to pruning and excretion of the pigment from the skin. After the shower apply a thin layer of moisturizer so that it doesn’t dry out. DO NOT let the tattoo sit in standing water (hot tubs, saunas, lakes, ocean, bath tub, ect). Avoid water for 1-1.5 weeks.

things to avoid

  • Picking and scratching

  • Water

  • Pets

  • Unsanitary working environments

  • Sweating for at least five days

  • Sun light - you are going to feel the burn if you let the tattoo sit out in the sun and this could lead to boils on the skin, irritation, and can mainly cause fading to the tattoo

Touch ups

I am happy to touch up any tattoos within the first six months of getting the tattoo for free (this does not include hands or feet). Past the six month mark I will charge $100 for any touch ups that I have done. I will ask that you send me pictures of the tattoo and the areas that you are wanting touched up so that I can have an idea of what we will be working with on the date of the appointment.
